Enrolling in 2FA with Microsoft Authenticator

Step 1

On your mobile device, download the Microsoft Authenticator app. (Do not log in, as we will scan a QR code to connect your account to the authenticator app in a later step)

Step 2

Once you download the authenticator app, when you log into your student account via Canvas, Gmail or Student First, you will be prompted with a "let’s keep your account secure" screen like the one shown below.

Step 3

Click next, it should then tell you to do the same thing we had you do in step one: “Install Microsoft Authenticator” Click Next until you come across a QR Code.

you should then be met with a screen which shows a QR code such as the examples below.

Step 4

On your Microsoft authenticator app, do not log in, instead look for an option that says “Scan QR Code” (This is how we will add your Cumberland University account)

Step 5

Once you scan the QR code, hit next.
In order to authenticate your login to the desired platform, you will need to type in the number shown on the screen into the Microsoft Authenticator app on you mobile device.

Step 6

Once you have entered the number from your screen into your mobile device you have successfully set up Microsoft Authenticator for your Cumberland University accounts.
The next time you sign into a new device, you will receive another code that will need to be entered into the Microsoft Authenticator application.

Please note:

On your phone, it will always prompt a number to be entered, you do not have to click on your account for a 6 digit code.
